Setser scores a pair of top-10's in Turnpike Challenge at Creek County and Port City
Gunnar Setser returned to the driver’s seat of his Midwest Tube Mills No. 43 Midget from Thursday to Saturday as the 12th annual Turnpike Challenge unfolded at two tracks in Oklahoma.
For Thursday’s opener at Creek County Speedway (Sapulpa, Okla.), Setser topped his 24-car group in time trials before placing third in his heat. Lined up seventh for feature, Gunnar climbed one spot in the 30-lapper to finish sixth.
In a field of 46 POWRi National Midgets on Friday at Port City Raceway (Tulsa, Okla.), Gunnar backed up a third-place finish in his heat with a consolation victory. Moving forward in the A-Main, Setser jumped up five positions to place 12th.
Setser’s weekend concluded on Saturday with a ninth-place finish in the $4,000-to-win Turnpike Challenge finale. The Columbus, Indiana native followed up a third-place outing in his heat with a 16th-to-9th run in the 40-lap main event.
